Due to the nature of Kuen-Do, it is difficult to provide a comprehensive syllabus of the system. However, for the purpose of explaining Kuen-Do, the syllabus can be broadly defined into 3 stages:

THE CORE

This is the stage where the basics are first learnt. It is like learning the individual of the alphabets. Some of the key techniques like the Sup Samm Sau (13 Hands) and footwork, basic concepts like parry and deflect vs blocking, body mechanics, calisthenics, importance of physical fitness are discussed and explored.

At this stage, forms (pattern or kata) are also introduced to assist the practitioner to enhance their own body awareness. Basic drills are introduced to explain the concepts behind the key techniques.

EXPLORATION

Once certain key concepts are mastered, advance drills like Chi Sau (Sticky Hands) are explored. Practioners will also be encouraged to devlop joint locks, fluidity and flow, strategy development and realistic combat drills. Weapons like Kali/Escrima (Rattan stick fighting), and long pole are also introduced to be the extension of the human body.

LIBERALIZATION

At this stage, practitioner are encouraged to research their own experience to find out what works for them and what doesn't. Like an artist who have learnt the basics and with practice goes on to develop their own style.
